This site has been set up to let the public know about the availability of older Brussels Griffon dogs that a Breeder has retired from their breeding program, the show ring or from a prior placement. Recently we have started adding puppies to our listings.
On the Brussels Griffon parent clubs website, you will see the statement that the members of this club bears the responsibility of being the guardian of the standard, chief welfare advocate of the Brussels Griffon, and leader in improving breed health, and controlling overpopulation. Each member of the ABGA, NBGC and Liberty Brussels Griffon Club sign a Code of Ethics or Guideline for Responsible Practices. These guides are what separate our breeders from the puppy mills, back yard and occassional breeders.
A true breeder’s goal is to produce healthy puppies that adhere to our standard. To maintain the standards of the breed does mean that producing puppies is part of the program. It is a fine line that a breeder walks to keep moving the quality of their line forward without creating overpopulation. In the process of this pursuit, the responsible breeder sees to the care of the Griffons they show and breed. Additionally, the breeders make all efforts to breed healthy dogs by checking pedigrees before breeding and having their own dogs health checked before breeding.
Dogs in a breeding program age, acquire medical conditions, or do not fulfill the potential they showed as youngsters. Although we place our puppies in “non-breeder or show” homes in the hopes that this home will be the only home this dog will ever have, it is sometimes difficult for a breeder to be a forever home to the dogs in their program. In many cases, certain dogs would thrive in the environment of a private home. The responsibility of finding a home to place a former show or breeding dog falls on the breeder. Often it is hard to find the individuals who might want this older or special needs dog. We hope that this site will provide that outlet.
It is important that we keep in mind that the Breeder Placement website is for the placement or re-homing of dogs that are owned, co-owned, breed or under the care of a breeder in good standing of ABGA, NBGC or LBGC. It is not a rescue site. Go the National Brussels Griffon Rescue site to view available rescue dogs. The BGBPP formed a small committee of Breeders who have established a Code Of Understanding that each person posting a listing to this website must sign.
Each posting contains a description of the dog, which would include sex, age, and any special comments. The dog you acquire should be neutered or spayed. Inquiries go directly to the person posting the notice. The interested parties and the individual offering the dog must come to an arrangement. The Breeders Placement Program is not responsible or involved in any way with the final placement of the dog or exchange of money. It is up to you, the interested party, to agree with the terms called out. We do strongly advise that the breeder provide you with a contract that calls out all requirements.
It will be up to the Breeder of the dog to discuss your home environment and the needs of the dog you are interested in. Please understand that some dogs may need a special environment that you cannot provide. Trust the judgment of the Breeder to know the right home for their dog.
Although BGBPP is not involved in the final resolution of the placement of any dogs, we do wish to uphold the integrity of this site. If as an interested individual, you feel the Breeder did not adhere to the Code of Understanding or ethics of the Clubs, please let us know by sending an email to Carole Ross. If you interested in one of the dogs on the site please contact the person listed on the site not the email listed above.
Breeders interested in posting to this site, please contact Carole Ross.
